Abstract

Purpose

The aim of this paper was to prepare a stable fluorescent disperse yellow paste by wet grinding process by adding naphthalene sulphonic derivative dispersing agent.

Design/methodology/approach

The dispersants 2-naphthalenesulphonic acid (NNO), naphthalene-sulphonic acid (MF) and benzyl naphthalene sulphonate formaldehyde condensate (CNF) were used to disperse the yellow dye. The particle size of the paste was characterised by particle size analyser. The paste centrifugal stability, diffusion properties, morphology and thermal properties were also tested for assessing its stability which could be helpful to prepare inks with good stability.

Findings

The particle sizes of dye pastes with dispersing agent NNO, MF and CNF were 161.1, 150.0 and 136.0 nm, respectively, after grinding for 6 h. The dye paste grinded with dispersing agent CNF presented good centrifugal and thermal properties. TEM images demonstrated that the morphologies of dye pastes grinded with dispersing agent MF and CNF were homogeneous nearly spherical nanoparticle and rarely generated agglomeration and precipitation.

Originality/value

The paste used for aqueous inkjet ink exhibited excellent thermal stability.

Abstract

Purpose

A disperse fluorescent yellow paste was mixed with a dispersant naphthalene sulfonic derivative via wet grinding process to prepare thermal transfer ink with good fluorescence. The paper aims to discuss these issues.

Design/methodology/approach

The surface tension, viscosity, pH value, zeta potential, stability and the morphology of ink samples were tested after the storing process.

Findings

The morphology of paste was homogeneous nearly spherical nanoparticles and the particle size was about 100 nm from the transmission electron microscopy (TEM), which was similar to the average particle size obtained from the particle size analyser.

Research limitations/implications

The paste particle size was 126.8 nm after storing at 50°C for one week. The addition of diethylene glycol was conducive to high fluorescent reflectivity and gave good line image quality both in warp and weft directions due to the low viscosity. Inkjet printed polyester fabrics achieved excellent rubbing, laundering and thermal subliming fastnesses.

Originality/value

The polyester fabrics thermal transferred with the ink contained diethylene glycol represented higher fluorescent reflectivity and gave better line image quality both in warp and weft directions. The inkjet printed polyester fabrics showed excellent colour reproducibility and all the fastnesses, including rubbing, laundering and thermal subliming, were higher than Grade 4.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to prepare waterborne UV-curable pigment pastes for cotton fabric printing.

Design/methodology/approach

O/W (oligomer-in-water) emulsions of polyurethane acrylate (PUA) oligomer in sodium dodecyl benzene sulphonate (SDBS) aqueous solution were prepared by ultrasonic emulsification method.

Findings

The present work studies various factors affecting the stability and droplet size of the O/W emulsion stabilised by SDBS. The optimal emulsifier concentration was 2.5 per cent, under which condition the stability of the emulsion increased as the emulsifier content increased, with a subsequent decrease in the droplet size of the emulsion, while above which emulsion agglomeration occurred. Increasing the power and duration of ultrasonic dispersion resulted in increased emulsion stability and decreased droplet size, while increases in the oligomer content reduced the emulsion stability. Darocure 1173 mixed with PUA and then emulsified in the SDBS aqueous solution guaranteed uniform dispersion of the photoinitiator, resulting in faster curing speed.

Originality/value

This paper presents a new method for making waterborne externally emulsified oligomers for UV curing, and finds that it is easy to convert the existing oligomers into waterborne equivalents by this method. Cotton fabrics printed with the oligomer emulsion based pastes were found to have good colour strength and crockfastness.

Abstract

Purpose

Green energy as a transportation supply trend is irreversible. In this paper, a highway energy supply system (HESS) evolution model is proposed to provide highway transportation vehicles and service facilities with a clean electricity supply and form a new model of a source-grid-load-storage-charge synergistic highway-PV-WT integrated system (HPWIS). This paper aims to improve the flexibility index of highways and increase CO2 emission reduction of highways.

Design/methodology/approach

To maximize the integration potential, a new energy-generation, storage and information-integration station is established with a dynamic master–slave game model. The flexibility index is defined to evaluate the system ability to manage random fluctuations in power generation and load levels. Moreover, CO2 emission reduction is also quantified. Finally, the Lianhuo Expressway is taken as an example to calculate emission reduction and flexibility.

Findings

The results show that through the application of the scheduling strategy to the HPWIS, the flexibility index of the Lianhuo Expressway increased by 29.17%, promoting a corresponding decrease in CO2 emissions.

Originality/value

This paper proposed a new model to capture the evolution of the HESS, which provides highway transportation vehicles and service facilities with a clean electricity supply and achieves energy transfer aided by an energy storage system, thus forming a new model of a transportation energy system with source-grid-load-storage-charge synergy. An evaluation method is proposed to improve the air quality index through the coordination of new energy generation and environmental conditions, and dynamic configuration and dispatch are achieved with the master–slave game model.
